Perfect Pair Inspiration: Caroline & Jeff
I just love their story! Great wedding shot by Fred Egan.
Wow. That's all I have to say about that.
How did you two meet? This is going to sound weird, but we met in 1997 online in an AOL Dallas chatroom. lol. (This was back when online chatting was really new and popular.) We were actually supposed to have been set up in 10th grade, but it just never happened then we randomly met online after our senior year of high school, and traded pictures...then met up. You know, stuff that parents these days should really be watching out for!
How long have you been together? We've known each other for 10 years, been together for 8 1/2 years.
How did you get engaged? He proposed to me at The Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood in June of 2005. He told me we were going to meet a friend of his from out-of-town who was staying at The Mondrian. When we got there, we went up to the "friend's" room and my husband had the key (which for some reason, didn't appear strange to me), and he opened the door. My mouth dropped. I just knew what was coming next. :) The room was filled with lit candles, roses, rose petals and a spectacular view of Los Angeles. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was awesome...
What is your favorite thing about each other? Can I list 3 things? lol. He's funny, smart and responsible. He's at work right now, but i'll ask him what his favorite thing about me is when he gets home.
How or when was it that you knew you were in love with each other? Considering the fact that we've been together for 8 years, we went through a lot of changes in our lives. The important thing was that we went through these changes together.
What was the first thing you picked out or decided after you got engaged? I met with a floral designer in October 2006 in Dallas, who then introduced me to my event planner, Rebecca Hackl. I actually ended up using a different floral designer, The Garden Gate.
The hardest part about planning your wedding? Planning a wedding in Dallas, from Los Angeles. Also, the fact that our venue (The Ritz-Carlton) was still under major construction, it was hard for me to really envision what I wanted, as far as my reception went. And usually, if you don't know what your venue is going to look like, it's hard to decide what you want your invitations to look like or even your wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses. These things all set the mood for the reception. We did two or three walk-throughs of the Ritz's ballroom in hard-hats throughout our wedding planning process.
Your favorite thing about your wedding? Blinging out my Christian Louboutin wedding shoes and my invitations from Soolip! Do to getting several questions and comments about where I got my shoes, I am actually accepting "blinging" requests now. You can bling me at: BlingDreams@gmail.com. :)
Where and how did you pick out your wedding dress? Who was with you? This is one tricky. I actually ended up kind of buying two wedding dresses. The first one was in Dallas. I was with my planner, who had referred me to this place. I guess I should have taken my time with this big decision, but I was just so excited. I put down half the deposit ($3k) for a Carolina Herrera gown and veil that no one had yet, but then a day later and back in LA, I realized it wasn't really what I was looking for. So, I basically ended up with a $3k veil, if you want to look at it that way. I finally went to the Monique Lhuillier boutique in Beverly Hills, and told them about my whole fiasco with the boutique in Dallas and they assured me that I could have a fitted gown done in time for my wedding. I ended up choosing a gown ensemble that I had saved on my computer since 2005. It was a Monique Lhuillier bustier and A-line skirt with a satin sash. So, my advice is to always go with your first instincts.
Did you have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue items? I guess I kind of forgot about this part of the wedding tradition. Ha. Something New: Just about everything. Lol. Something Borrowed: I wore my sister's earrings and bracelet from her wedding.
Any traditions in your family you followed/used? We had the traditional Vietnamese "tea ceremonies" at both the bride and groom's homes. So, I felt bad for my bridal party and photographers (Fred Egan, Jenae Tankersley and Kyle Barnes). They had to wake up at 4:30am, and we had to be ready by 9am for the ceremony to begin. I can safely say that we had a 24 hour wedding day because the reception didn't end until 2am and still later for others.
Did you have a theme for your wedding? I guess it was mostly traditional with a touch of young and modern (but please don't use the word "contemporary").
Colors used? Light Mauves, Peaches, cremes, whites (natural colors)
How did you choose the rings? We chose them together. We figured, we'd been together for so long, so we might as well get something that we both know we'll like. My husband has a the "Love" ring from Cartier, and I have a Tacori ring setting from BBB.
In one word, your day was...perfect.
Favorite moment in the whole day? Our "First Dance"
What was the "first dance" song? "You're Still the One" - sung by my cousin, Lele (She sang it beautifully!)
Where was the honeymoon? We didn't really have time to take one. Right after our wedding, we flew back to LA and started packing our stuff up to move back to Dallas. We did take a trip to Cabo in May, if that counts! :)

Perfect Pair Inspiration: Laura & Matt!

How did you two meet? We met when our dad's were on staff together at our church. Matt was in the 7th grade and I was in the 8th grade. We were really good friends because our families were around each other all the time!
How long have you been together? We actually started dating when we were 17 so we will have been together 7 years in January!
How did you get engaged? Matt took me to 5 different places that had significance in our relationship: first date, first kiss, first held hands, defining the relationship dinner, first dance:) Each place represented 5 different foundations for a godly marriage and at each place he had a letter and a gift. The final place and final gift was the back porch of his parent's house. He had candles and roses EVERYWHERE! He was also playing my favorite kind of music! He told me that he loved me with all his heart and wanted me to be his wife! Of course, I said YES!
What is your favorite thing about each other? My favorite thing about Matt is his sensitive heart and sense of humor (sorry, two things, but it's hard to pick!). Matt's favorite thing about Laura is her heart for God and love for other people.
How or when was it that you knew you were in love with each other? We went on a missions trip to San Francisco in high school. While we were there we got to kind of watch each other serve the Lord and serve other people. It was during a service project that we knew we were in love:)
What was the first thing you picked out or decided after you got engaged? Our wedding date!
The hardest part about planning your wedding? Choosing a theme was the hardest! There are so many beautiful and unique ways to have a wedding that it was hard to pick just one!
Your favorite thing about your wedding? We loved our location! It was so perfect for us!
Where and how did you pick out your wedding dress? Who was with you? I got my dress from Bride Beautiful in Atlanta, GA. My mom, sisters, and friend were with me. I told them I was going to try on 3 dresses without telling them which was my favorite and they had to tell me which one suited me best. They ALL fell in love with the one I like the best! Perfection!
Did you have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue items? What were they? Of course! My something old was an antique Romanian hanky that was given to me when I went on Mission trip there. I had my new monogram on the hanky in blue. My veil was borrowed from my best friend:)
Any traditions in your family you followed/used? We rode away in my Great Grandfather's 1920 Chevrolet-- the same one my older sister rode away in. It was very special!
Did you have a theme for your wedding? Not really a theme, more just classic elegance.
Colors used? Pink and Brown
How did you choose the rings? Matt picked mine out all by himself! He did a wonderful job, too! We went together to pick his out:)
In one word, your day was...? Perfect
Favorite moment in the whole day? Walking down the aisle... oh, and doing Soulja Boy with everyone at my wedding! Ha!

Perfect Pair Inspiration: Kathryn & Brandon
Kathryn & Brandon's wedding was photographed by the amazing Whitebox Weddings. They had engagement shots done as well!
How did you two meet? Brandon and I knew each other for almost two years before we begandating. We met at church, and spent time hanging out together at different events. Apparently Brandon had a little crush on me fromthe time he met me, but I was completely unaware.After a year and a half of knowing each other, I moved from Raleigh to New York City. Brandon came to visit, along with some other friends, for the new year. That weekend we walked the city streets, visited museums, and rang in the new year together. As the clock struck midnight, I realized I wanted him to kiss me. And with that thought, I realized everything between us had just changed. The next day, the friends were scheduled to leave. But Brandon booked a flight to stay another day with me. We spent it laughing, talking, and eating pancakes. By the next day, we were officially a couple.
How long have you been together? Brandon and I got married one year and three days after we began dating. We were married on January 5, 2008.
How did you get engaged? In Raleigh on summer break, a friend woke me up at 5 am and, after Igot ready, took me to the airport. But then my flight was cancelled! Eventually, I was put on another flight and made it to New York City. I had a map from Brandon of Central Park with a big "X" on it, so I hopped in a cab to make my way there. Not only was I seriously late due to my flight problems, but the city had just underwent a terrible storm. The subway system had been shut down for several hours, so traffic was a nightmare! As I was stuck in traffic, I realized I only had $40 to make it to my destination. And that's when I started praying! Fortunately, I made it to the west side of the park (it took all of my $40) and started into the park. When I got to the famous angel statue next to the lake, I looked around for Brandon. But he wasn't there! At that point, my frustration got the best of me and I called him. "Where exactly are you?" I asked. "At the X," he said. "No you aren't, I am!" Finally, he convinced me to "walk west," until I ran into him at another spot by the lake. He walked me down a path, said some wonderful things about how much he loves me, and then dropped to his knee. We spent the rest of the day in the city, then flew back to Raleigh that evening. He could not have done a better job making the whole proposal both memorable and meaningful!
What is your favorite thing about each other? Brandon and I love the same things about each other. We were first attracted to each other's faith. And we absolutely love to be playful, act silly, and laugh!
What was the first thing you picked out or decided after you got engaged? I actually chose our photographers first! It's like I explained to my dad... besides the husband, the pictures are the most important thing I get to keep from the wedding! I found Whitebox Weddings on the Knot and was sold after browsing their website. The wonderful color and freshness of their style fit Brandon and I perfectly! Sara and Mel were absolutely wonderful. Not only were they so easy to work with on the wedding day, but the photos are absolutely beautiful! We get compliments on them all the time.
The hardest part about planning your wedding? The guest list! Brandon and I have so many family, friends, and loved ones that it was hard to keep the guest list to a manageable number. But in the end, it was such a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by the people dearest to us on our special day.
Your favorite thing about your wedding? My dress and my red shoes! I loved wearing a tea-length dress, and I love the pop of color the red shoes provided. Not only did I feel that it expressed a little bit of my sassy personality, but I also love the way the color turned out in our pictures. Brandon knew I was planning to wear red shoes, but we didn't tell the rest of the family. We figured they may try to talk me out of it. In the end, even my grandmother (who was surprised and not excited at first) came around. She told me later that the shoes made for the best wedding pictures ever! Brandon was supportive from the start, and even wore red argyle socks to match!
Where and how did you pick out your wedding dress? I was determined to find a tea-length wedding dress, even though I was having a January wedding! I just felt like the style fit my personality, and I definitely wanted something a little bit different. I went to David's Bridal one afternoon to just browse. My dress was the second one I tried on. My mom wasn't even there!
Did you have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue items? What were they? My something old was my grandmother's gold cross, which we attached to the ribbon on my bouquet. Something new was my red shoes! I borrowed my earrings from my best friend. And my something blue was a Carolina temporary tattoo, something special for my NC State alum husband!
Any traditions in your family you followed/used? Brandon and I aren't super-traditional people. So we weren't very concerned with a lot of the traditions or expectations that come along with weddings. But we did go for traditional vows. They truly expressed our heart and our commitment to each other.
Did you have a theme for your wedding? "Best day ever"... No really, we didn't have one.
Colors used? We had a black and white wedding. Except for the splash of red, of course!
In one word, your day was...? Fun!
Favorite moment in the whole day? I think the best moment was when our flower girl, Brandon's neice,wound up on stage between us and the audience. Initially, she wanted to be held by her dad, one of the groomsmen. But when he let her down to go join her mom in the audience, she got a little distracted. Instead, she sat down on the edge of the stage where we were standing and scooted her way to the middle. She spent most of the ceremony just sitting there, directly between us and the audience, enjoying the attention of all the eyes on her!
Where was the honeymoon?! We went to Hawaii for twelve days. It was fabulous!
